Sample Lessons

Altogether, Spirit & Truth Publishing has produced 15 faith formation products. For our resources that are based on the Narrative or Revised Common Lectionaries, we publish new or updated versions of each product annually to correspond to each year of that lectionary. You can see a description of each resource on our Product Catalog.

For your convenience, we have grouped samples of our products into multiple categories, which you can download with one click below. Since some of these categories overlap (for example, one product is based on the Revised Common Lectionary for cross+generational ministry) the same sample can appear in multiple packages.

Revised Common Lectionary

New, starting in the 2020-2021 program year, we have two products based on the popular Revised Common Lectionary, one a group- or class-based curriculum and the other designed for families to use at home. As a bonus, these two samples provided here are for dates within the upcoming Easter season, so you can try them out then!

Narrative Lectionary

Out of our 15 products, a full ten of them are based on the Narrative Lectionary, a (relatively) new calendar of Scripture readings for worship and education. The purpose of this lectionary is to increase biblical fluency by telling the story of God and God’s people from creation to the early church. So, even if your congregation is not using the NL in worship, this is the perfect series to teach the biblical story. Our products cover kids, youth, adults, cross+gen ministry, and families at home!

Home-Based Faith Formation

We have always believed that the home is the most important place for faith formation, but the pandemic in 2020-2021 created (or emphasized) the need for more formal educational resources for families to do at home. So, we added two curricula for families to our long-time devotional resource, one for the Revised Common Lectionary and the other for the Narrative Lectionary (giving a Bible overview). These are not “parents teach Sunday school” products but “families participate together” for everyone’s faith formation.

Cross+Generational Ministry

Intergenerational ministry is based on the simple premise that faith is built most effectively within relationships between people of different ages. Each person, no matter how young or how old, has something to teach and something to learn. Our resources are based on the Revised Common Lectionary or the Narrative Lectionary, and work in the classroom, the worship service, or at home.

Youth & Confirmation

We have two resources for youth. Our first curriculum is not written specifically for confirmation but for a larger audience of middle and high school youth. It is based on the Narrative Lectionary, so many leaders have found it invaluable for teaching confirmation students the biblical story (the “Bible year”). Our second curriculum is a unique, intergenerational confirmation curriculum that follows the structure of Martin Luther’s Small Catechism (Commandments, Creed, Lord’s Prayer, Sacraments). In response to the pandemic, we created an online community with a safe, distraction-free digital meeting space for your class and the Chosen Together curriculum as a virtual course.

Worship, Liturgy, and Church Festivals

These final products were actually our first. Seeing a need to engage elementary-aged students in liturgical worship, our publisher wrote curricula for PK-2nd and 3rd-6th grade students to teach them both why we say what we say and what it all means. In addition to the standard weekly, lesson plans of activities, the PK-2nd graders learn through illustrated stories, while the 3rd-6th graders encounter the text of the liturgy in readers-theater skits. In addition to engaging in the worship service, all ages learn about many of the major church festivals.
